Flesh & the Mirror - the Self-Image of Rebecca Fontaine-Wolf

ART BOOK

This art book captures my debut solo institutional exhibition in Berlin, Flesh & the Mirror – The Self-Image of Rebecca Fontaine-Wolf, presented at Haus Kunst Mitte. It showcases a wide range of works displayed across nine rooms, reflecting on the past four years of my artistic practice. The exhibition includes photographs, objects, video, film, and painting, all focused on themes of identity, gender, and the fragmented self. Central to this exhibition are my "physi-digital" works, which combine large-scale, conceptually driven photographs with elements of painting, collage, and digital techniques, creating a unique fusion of the physical and digital realms.

The book also features insightful essays by academics, art historians, and artists, who delve deeper into the ideas behind the work. Christophe Koné’s Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, Manuel Furtado’s Dressing a Sublime Carcass, and Marie-Anne Mancio’s Fragmented Desire offer thoughtful interpretations and place my work into a broader art historical context, while curator Dr. Anna Havemann’s essay, Flesh & the Mirror, explores how my work challenges conventional portrayals of women in art and media.

Special thanks to the authors—Christophe Koné, Manuel Furtado, Marie-Anne Mancio, and Dr. Anna Havemann—for their generosity in sharing their time, talent, and insights. I would also like to thank Connor Benedict for his layout work. Design by Rebecca Fontaine-Wolf, documentation of the artworks by Michael Lüder.
